Red Black Lacquered Donut Jewelry Box Ceremonial Necklace Chao Zhu Chinese

Red shiny exterior, black shiny interior lacquered donut shaped box, originally used to protect a "Chao Zhu" or ceremonial court necklace worn by mandarins to show their rank. Please see photos for details. Condition: At one time, there may have been designs painted on the exterior of the box.

You can see remnants of this in the photos. There are scuffs, scratches and chips of paint missing; normal wear for a piece of this age.
