A rare survivor, Papier Mache construction with Cinnabar Red L:acquer externally and black lacquer internals, Chinese Jewellery Box. The handle is of wood.

The box fits together in the style of an Inro with each segment fitting one on top of the other. There are two tiers with the top tier being deeper and therefore capable of housing larger items of jewellery. The whole item has been made by hand and therefore, each of the segments only fit one way and are not interchangeable. The intricate external decoration is incised work that is also hand applied.

At the time of listing, there are two other similar boxes for sale in the shop (under the shop category heading of'Lacquer Ware)! In good condition for its age but inevitably, there is some small areas of lacquer loss here and there to the external lacquer and four small areas of damage to the papier mache but nonetheless, it has obviously been cared for during its life!

The Lacquer has retained its vibrant colours and has had the benefit of being cleaned with museum cleaning substances that also aid protection of the lacquer and sheild it also from finger prints when handled. Height of approximately 6.5 inches / 16.5 cms; length of approximately 7.25 inches / 18.5 cms and a width of approximately 3.5 inches / 9 cms.
