A Meiji Era Japanese Elm Sewing Box with Four Drawers and Lidded Compartment A very nice little box, in very good condition considering it's age. The drawer fronts have a distinctive satinwood-like grain giving a beautiful finish. Fittings are solid brass or iron. Drawers and joints are all stable and the piece has recently been cleaned and waxed to restore its patina.
There is a small hole to the rear on the side, this is common on this type of box and would have been used to store long needles or a bamboo measuring stick. Measurements: W29 x H23 x D18cm approx. W11.5 x H9 x D7. This item will be sent from Hiroshima, Japan.[JPY prices above are based on an estimated total package weight].
