A heavy well-made and richly appointed jewelry box with pale green jade panels in the front. The metal work is artistically shaped and incised. A rectangular shaped solid rosewood box with brass hinges, corners, drawer pulls, and embellishments.The brass is tooled with floral and symbolic brass decorations like bats and the endless knot. These brass pieces are attached with brass brads. On the top of the box is a heavy double happiness symbol with an attached handle. There are four pale green jade panels that are pierced in floral patterns that decorate the doors and sides.
The base has wooden feet covered with brass on the outside edges. The hinged doors to the box have leaf shaped pulls. Inside the box are three doors with hinged bamboo pulls. The drawers are lined with pink brocade silk. One drawer has a segmented area for holding rings.The drawers can come out of the box. The wood of the box is heavy, tight grained, reddish in color and shiny in appearance. The mark CHINA is stamped into the wood on the base. 7 (17.8 cm) tall x 5 ½ (14.0 cm) wide x 4 ¼ (10.8 cm) deep. Weighs 2 lb 6.3 oz (1085 g). There are no splits, cracks, breaks or losses. On the back is a strip of wood that is lacking stain. There is oxidization spotting on the brass. One brass hoops that was used to secure the door is missing. As result the door stays partially ajar. This could probably be repaired pretty easily.
