Antique Chinese Carved Sandalwood Jewelry Box with Insert- Circa 1850's Qing dynasty period. It is apparently made of sandalwood stained black. Measures 6.7 x 5.2 x 4.9-inches. The five panels are deep relief hand carved sculptural scenes with people. The inside has a lift out tray with a red felt bottom and brass tabs.

The inside of the lid and the bottom of the box are also covered with red felt. The lid is attached with sturdy brass hinges. Excellent original condition without chips, cracks, or dents. The red felt areas has some minor wear caused by age. The top panel depicts dignitaries receiving gifts from visitors in a lavish palace garden.

The front and back panels show the dignitaries meeting in the courtyard. The end panels depict two figures in the courtyard. These scenes are deeply and magnificently hand carved figures, trees.
